THE MOMENT OF DESCENT
The sunset and the tides are universal constants in life. Realizing this, I photographed the sunsets in the same location nightly just minutes before the sun vanished beneath the horizon. The sun burned an imprint into each Polaroid marking its descent. After amassing hundreds of pictures, I built color fields that convey our shared awe of and unconditional surrender to nature’s unflinching pattern of time.
THE INFINITE SPECTRUM
During my curation of over five hundred Polaroids, I faced countless choices and an intimidating number of design prospects. For weeks I distilled various arrangements by tone, color, sun location, and more. The final round ordered by color shifts proved most effective. However, as more Polaroids fill the library of opportunity, I find the opportunities for the TWILIGHT II piece daunting . . .
MAPPING A BLACK HOLE
A unique trait of Polaroid film ensures no photo will ever have an identical twin. At sunset the light burns a black hole during exposure where one would instead expect a glowing orb. Subsequently each Polaroid acquires a signature black hole imprinted by the sun. By shooting over a thousand photos from the same vantage point, I have mapped the graceful migration of the sun’s imprint through seasonal shifts, as it unfolds into an infinite spectrum of remarkable hues.
